Like many buildings in Rome, the Castel Sant’Angelo has had many roles throughout history. It began as a mausoleum for the Emperor Hadrian, became a fortress during the invasion of the Goths and Visigoths, and has sheltered Popes within its impenetrable walls.
         Come molte costruzioni a Roma, Castel Sant'Angelo ha avuto molti ruoli nella storia. Cominciò come mausoleo per l’Imperatore Adriano, poi era diventato una fortezza durante l'invasione dei Goti e Visigoti, e aveva protetto i Papi dentro le sue mura impenetrabili.
